I saw some academic writing from some students last week which wasn’t very academic! One of the things which is really important to try and get right in your writing is academic style. I wrote a page recently in which I showed a paragraph from an academic journal and I picked out features in it which made it academic (if you haven’t read that article you can see it here) but I’ve also been hunting around for some other useful tips on what you can do to sound more academic. Today’s link is to Monash’s University Online Learning resources which are excellent. Their advice on academic style will help you sound more academic. Read about how to avoid using ‘I’, how to avoid emotive language, how to use formal language and how to be precise and accurate here.
